Standing Up From Prone

First Post
Does standing up from prone provoke an opportunity attack? Unlike the other forms of movement, the entry for it doesn't say one way or the other. I know in 3.5 it did, but I wasn't sure if it rang true for this system. The errata didn't have anything in it on this as far as I could tell

Thanks for the help,

OAs are provoked by: Leaving an adjacent square; using a ranged or area power; or by making a ranged or area attack. Standing from prone is none of these three things. It therefore does not provoke.

It doesn't, but I thought it might be fun if it did sometimes. So I let my players roll Acrobatics vs Reflex if they want to (vs all adjacent enemies) to stand up as a Minor, rather than a Move action, and take OAs from every foe whose Reflex exceeded their roll. Of course they can still choose to get up carefully, use a Move action and not take OAs....but people always seem to be in a hurry.

oops... that might get this thread moved AGAIN, to House Rules.

That idea might have merit, however do understand that it -severly- gimps ranged powers that knock prone. Such powers are often used to keep an enemy away from the party, or at least, deny them a move-and-attack option, which can be just as effective. If you're using prone-as-control, this option does hurt such characters.

Heh. I liked Icy Terraining those statues.

And they were mean.

But they're soldiers, so they're supposed to be of the 'tie you down' type.

I wouldn't have monsters do it, unless they were supposed to be exceptionally acrobatic monsters. So it shouldn't usually hurt ranged knockdown for players.

I guess by rule the is NO Opportunity Attack from Prone to Standing, since there is no movement OUT of a square, we have House Ruled that standing DOES draw OA's.

We've found this makes attacks that cause the Prone condition in melee much more exciting. Otherwise they're kinda lame.
