Did this happen in 2nd or 3rd?

3rd, of course. (Though it was hinted previously, as there is a forest in the south that has a subtitle of "Forest of the Grugach").

In any case - no more new races, please. Versimilitude is now being crushed under the weight of all these new races (and for FR, that's saying a lot!).

Did wild elves exist in the Realms prior to 3rd edition? If I recall correctly, the wild elves and valley elves were a Greyhawk thing, but somehow the wild elves got dropped into the Realms.

Did this happen in 2nd or 3rd?

As Arnwyn said and I said twice or so now. In 2e Wood and Wild and Sylvan elves were all the same subrace in FR. 3E's FR has split these into two seperate subraces now, so now there are Wood elves and Wild elves which are two different subraces. 3E has also retconned in the Star Elves as the original elves of the Yuir, even though originally they were Wild/Wood/Sylvan elves.
