Star Pact Hexblades up

Is the advanced summoning only ever meant to be able to attack once?

Edit: And is Starshadow Blade not meant to be a basic attack?

Edit2: And aren't the Starshadow powers implement powers as well as weapon powers?

Edit3: Do we really need both Dark and Infernal? Possibly. (I definitely want Vestige although it's far the trickiest) And the Sorceror King pact would get something like a flail and inflict combat advantage.

I guess in my ideal world there would have been another "Heroes' book coming down the pike which contained:

2 more warpriest domains
3 more mage specialties (transmuter/conjurer/necromancer perhaps)
2 more warlock pacts (star pact, shadow pact)
1 thief type (assassin)

Something like that.

:)

Super-perfect world would be more stuff like the "best of Dragon" book, which published stuff like the early "fix" for starlocks before Arcane Power came out, not to mention the Arcane Power book itself which I think republished some of the illusionist wizard stuff, etc.

Basically, get the new builds "right away" for subscribers, but eventually get it in book form as well. Likely the problem comes up with how succesful different kinds of splat books are. The Shadow book, unlike most of the older splat books, seems to be something that covers a broader cross section. The splat books introduced new builds, but also powers that worked for older classes. A book like that would be even less useful for an existing warlock player than Arcane Power for a PHB1 Warlock player would have been.

And, if nothing else, they do need to have some magazine content as even with their online tools, the subscription should provide something.

Do we think there will be a Dark pact Hexblade here soon? They still have Dark, Vestige, and Sorcerer-King pacts left, but I have a feeling WoTC does not feel like they have to cover each pact, which I agree with, but am still hoping they do so.

Well, Dark pact [or something like it] may end up in the Heroes of Shadow book. Sorcerer-King, if they do it, is definitely something that would end up in DDi, if only because it's a campaign specific pact (more so than the dark pact was).

I think a Hexblade with a Sorcerer-King pact would be really neat personally. My problem is that I'm not sure how much more variation in weapons there would be, or if they would just sort of use the same damage die, but change the damage type.

Well, they have both the +2/d12 and the +3/d10 ... which are about "equal" for the most part. They have made the fey and star pacts different in that one is a heavy blade and the other is a light blade, giving them different options in terms of feats and the like. It would be possible that, like weapons, they make a weapon with a smaller damage die (+3/d8 or +3/d4) with high crit or brutal, or similarly a +2/d10 with high crit or brutal. Or maybe reach? Although presumably they want to keep it a blade and not go into other weapon types.

I agree that they'll probably not go beyond light and heavy blades, given the name of the class. (Axes are a possibility, but a stretch.)

I doubt that any Pact Weapons will use properties that aren't in the Essentials ruleset - Brutal, Double or Stout weapons seem unlikely.

Their retribution either needs to be an immediate interrupt, or last until the end of the target's turn - the way it's written now, it will not affect any of the target's attacks.

If the target is making multiple attacks, reacting to the first will apply a penalty to the later attacks. Also, being blind during the warlock's turn means that the warlock gains combat advantage, and can move away from or around the enemy without opportunity attacks.

We already know that the Hexblade is a build in Heroes of Shadow, so it isn't much of a stretch to assume a Dark or Shadow Pact or some derivative thereof in that book.

Ooh, ouch! I've just realised that this Warlock qualifies for the Student of Caiphon PP - and just about everything is radiant. Crits on 18-20 all round (although you give up Caiphon's Intercession). Oh, and Starfire Womb is going to help as well. Saving throws? We got 'em.

Yes, though I prefer the business plan that put classes in books rather than in an online service :(

I thought the Star Pact Warlock was going to be in an Essentials book? Are you suggesting its DDI only?

The only DDI-only class I know of is the Assassin (and didn't a new version of that even get printed? Or will be printed in Essentials?)

The star pact for Hexblades (the essential version of Warlock) has just been published through DDI. HotFK contains the fey pact and the infernal one.
