Star Paladin Hybrid

"You can wield the implements of both classes," says the hybrid rules. It does not extend to classes chosen via the multiclassing feat.

A fair point and very legitimate interpretation, but Arcane Implement Proficiency is even more prohibitive in its wording than Blade Initiate while being palatable to most in terms of hybrids.

Having looked into it some more, I'd love to see some clarification on this, since the CB also doesn't apply Arcane Implement Proficiency (Heavy Blades) to Paladin powers as it does to Warlock, but CS has ruled that it should do so, "unless the power precludes the use of a heavy blade." Bit of a dual standard, and what I based my assertion on.

Hmmm. Anyway, strict RAW is as you describe, to be sure, but RAI is clearly a bit up in the air.

I've come against this issue myself. But unfortunately, it seems, you do not gain access to your powers via an implement you gain through multiclassing, hybrid or not. This is very unfair on bards who wish to multi-class into none arcane classes, as there is no equivalent feat for other power sources.

A paladin/warlock hybrid is a great build. The Star Pact is almost irrelavent if you don't take the boon... which when faced with Paladin Armour Prof is unfortunately ruled out.

Now, multiclass into Assassin... and you can pick up Shadow Walk too. For so many feats, your going to probably want to be human! Plus why worry about using your sword as your implement when you can hang that symbol of Ioun around your neck!!! (or graft it into your pommel) And save yourself a feat! Oooh 1d10 Warlock Curse Damage and 2 shrouds, on an Eyebite that makes me turn invisible to my Challenged enemy who will receive 5 radiant damage (yeah, 20 CHA, why not!!! Although with a Bastard Sword I'm sure 18 is fine...) if he ignores me and -3 on his hit due to my Dragonmark of Warding!! Did I mention I have a melee basic attack that triggers my White Lotus Riposte for an extra 5 damge if he takes the gamble and hits me (oh, and slides 1) or another one that deals radiant damage and causes 2 Vulnerability to radiant damage (so my mark deals 7 damage now) ... yeah the undead love me... that's right, I'm Geralt de Rivia, lost of the true Warlocks!!!

Sounds pretty awesome to me!!!!

Ok here is a go at something like what you are talking about. Not Half Elf like what you are working on. I prefer my Hybrids to be human.

Lvl 11 Human Paladin/Warlock Hybrid (Star Pact)
Paragon Path: Student of Caiphon (Crit on 18-20 with Radiant Warlock powers!!)
Starting Ability Scores
Str 10 con 16 Dex 13 Int 11 Wis 8 Car 18
Final Ability Scores
Str 11 Con 17 Dex 14 Int 14 Wis 9 Car 21

Defenses without Magic Items
AC 24 (Scale + Heavy Shield) FORT 19 REF 22 WILL 21
HP: 84 (Background: Born Under a Bad Sign... which fits thematically very well)
Skills Trained:
Endurance, Intimidate, Bluff, Diplomacy, Stealth (Assassin Training)

Powers
At-Will:
Ardent Strike, Eldritch Strike, Eye Bite (retrained at lvl 11 for Enfeebling Strike)

Encounter
lvl 1 Valorous Smite
lvl 3 Delban's Deadly Attention
lvl 7 Price of Cowardice

Daily
lvl 1 Armour of Agathy
lvl 5 Sign of Vulnerability
lvl 7 Ray of Reprisal

Utility
lvl 2 Bless Weapon
lvl 6 Fey Switch
lvl 10 Benediction (maybe?)

Feats
lvl1 Hybrid Talent: Paladin Armour Prof
Human: Weapon Prof: Bastard Sword
lvl2 Acolyte of the Veil: (multi class Assassin; Stealth Training)
lvl 4 Cursed Shadow (hello shadow step!!!)
Lvl 6 Crimson Fire (curse dmg 1d10)
lvl 8 White Lotus Risposte
lvl 10 Mark of Warding (mark now penalises with a -3 atk)
lvl 11 Two Fold Pact: Fey Pact (Eyebite comes back and hello Misty Step!!!!)

This pc looks seriously fun. Even from level 1. But at level 11 when it gains access to the most fun pact boon in the game (imo), it becomes quite frankly, funtastic!

I haven't looked at Magic Items, cos' what are the chances of hand picking every magic item you want (fairly low in most games I imagine).

Edit: I didn't take Virtuous Strike as an at-will as the Sun Domain doesn't really fit with Ioun... although dealing out Radiant Vulnerability would be the icing on the cake... unless you call yourself the Eclipse (with the assassin and warlock shadow flavour and worship also Pelor... or his 'shadowy side' and invent a connection to Ioun on days of the eclipse)
