Star Wars d20 question

First Post
Just curious if anyone out there knows if the d20 OGL extends to such products as Star Wars. Could a writer feasibly write an adventure citing the SW books as part of the OGL or that strictly just D&D? Even with the Modern rules? Personally I am not a writer as most know this by now, I do however know several writers that have inquired of me about this, I don't want to un-necessarily get involved if its impinging on IP or just plain Copyright infringement.

Thanks ahead!

without a glimmer of doubt

Hey is that a pun on Glimmer Sticks in the Han Solo series?:D

Thanks a bunch, really appreciate it. It was a two writer team out of Canada that was asking me. you know the usual inquieries without a website (suspicious). Grew up wanting to be a Drew Strewzan wannabe...ah well, I emailed them back and pointed them in this direction.

take care

You could do a SF d20 adventure, using d20 modern or some new d20 rules, that would be compatible with Star Wars. Only you couldn't say so.

But... set on a new planet, with new species, use different character classes for the NPCs, have "laser swords." That sort of stuff. To this point, it's been pretty well deemed not worth the hassle.

I'd love to see someone try though, personally.

I don't know how you'd get the point across... "An adventure that is compatible with the galaxy far, far away, created by George Lucas."?

Hmm...

or how about;

"yes, a great adventure it is. Beware the shadow side, a Gen Knight (short for Generation Knight) knows these things armed with only his will and his Ectoplasmic Laser Reinforced Magnetic sealed expandable dagger"

Would that work :D

If you can avoid any and all trademarks and copyrights from Lucasfilm (or anyone else for that matter), by all means go ahead and publish a generic space fantasy adventure.

Make sure you have a lawyer standing by, just in case, a precaution. ;)

Man. I would love to create an entire Artifacts of the Arcane of just Star Wars stuff. I know as far as copyright law goes, you can produce any number of originals (paintings renderings) and sell as many as you want, thats called artistic liscense (as long as your interpretation differs slightly from any other creations, form colors to pose to dfaces and some clothing). BUT you can''t sell prints or do any reproduction, then it goes from a "craft product" to a Print Production venu and thats a big no no.

If anyone has ideas about what the loopholes are for space opera look alike prints are, I would be more than jazzed about creating a " Artifacts of Otherworlds" volume :D

But I would probably have to make it very obscure at the closest.
Especially after a public post. The Writers never wrote me back.....hmmmmmm

Why limit yourself to Star Wars? If you still want to do SW-like adventures, perhaps you can submit it to Paizo for publication in Dungeon/Polyhedron magazine.

Otherwise, think generic, so that gamers can use your product for Star Wars, or T20: Traveller, or the proposed "d20 Future" product (from Wizards). IOW, why cater to one audience when you can cater to three or more audience?

If you still want to do SW-like adventures

Tru true, but I must first point out I don't write, just a visual kind of guy. I am just speaking of visuals right now. Even though i was talking of writers. I personally don't produce adventures, just the art to bring them along.

But still a good point, if I make "future" things, they can be used for anything even if the do have a certain space Opera feel
;)
