Star Wars: D20 v. Saga? [Update 12/08/08: Got The Book]

I'd probably restrict "Skill Focus(use the force)" so that you can't take it until you have a force-using prestige class (or advanced class or whatever it is they call them).

That would probably fix 80-90% of the potential problems at low level.

Cheers

I was just recently considering restricting it until 6th level, which is pretty close to the level at which prestige classes become available.

It'd probably be cleaner to just require knowledge of at least one Force Technique to take Skill Focus: Use the Force. All the 'first-tier' force-user prestige classes (Jedi Knight, Force Adept, Sith Apprentice) grant them as class abilities. But that does kind of punish oddball Force user builds.

That makes it a 9th Level Feat for any force user, given that the earliest you can take a PrC is 8th Level, and a technique isn't gained until the 2nd level of a Force PrC.

Alright another Minnesotan!

I also own both the original and RCR books along with a few supplements. After checking out Saga, there's no way I'm going back.

One thing I'd like to echo from Plane Sailing's post is that full round actions are nearly non-existent. This makes combat much more fluid and mobile.

With talents, each class is far more versatile than before. The Jedi vs. non-Jedi gap is also smaller. Jedi are still great combatants, but there is incentive to be more than just a fighter and the other classes make interesting combatants too.

I've also been impressed with the usefulness and quality of the Saga line.

So, I hit the game store with my girlfriends today and sat on the fence, looking it over for 15 minutes.

Sabrina yanked the book out of my hands, looked at the cost on the back and took the book up to the counter. Her and my other three girlfriends ponied up $11, buying the book for me.

We usually don't buy holiday gifts for each other, but this was just cool. I'll be sure to give them gifts this year. :)

Can I have your girlfriends?

Slider Wade,
Congratz on the gift.

As a suggestion, if you have any, and I do mean any, questions regarding Saga Edition, go check out the d20 Radio forums and especially the Order 66 podcast. GM Chris and Dave cover a lot of subjects in the 40+ episodes of their podcast, ranging from discussion of the base classes to all sorts of rules issues. And the forum community there is quite knowledgeable about Saga Edition and quick to respond.
