On the Rogue/Red Squadron question:
It was Red Squadron (Luke, Biggs, Wedge, Jek, etc) that took down the first Death Star.
Luke and Wedge found Rogue Squadron between ANH & ESB.
They were definitely calling each other "Rogue" at the battle of Hoth.
However, in ROTJ, against the 2nd Death Star, they are again called Red Squadron.
But hold on, its not an inconsistency (or any inconsistency can be reasonably explained away).
Well, it turns out it was really Rogue Squadron, but they changed their name back to Red Squadron against the 2nd Death Star because it was Red Squadron that destroyed the 1st Death Star. It was a good luck charm/commemorative temporary renaming.
