Dissipate Energy states ""You may dissipate or perhaps absorb energy damage you would otherwise take because of your environment or because of an attack." (i.e. Blaster fire, fire, etc. - energy damage...

Regarding Force powers... it was argued since the force is "a mystical field of energy" would this also protect you from offensive force powers?

Or

does the reference to (force grip, force strike) "Dealing X physical damage" mean the type of energy is manifested in physical damage i.e. bludgeon vs energy for physical damage.

Dissipate energy only works against weapons with the "Energy" type *(e.g., blasters, etc.)

You're correct in guessing that Force Strike, dealing "physical" damage, can't be stopped by Dissipate Energy.

(Also, you should note that Dissipate Energy only works versus attacks that actually do WP damage...if you get shot for VP damage, Dissipate won't help you.)

Dissipate works against Energy damage, whether it comes from a lightning bolt, a blaster shot, a lightsaber, or a sonic grenade.

If an attack does Energy damage, regardless of its source, and you take Wound points from it, you can use Dissipate Energy on it.

Note that in the errata, the saving throw DC was increased to 10 + the damage done, rather than just equal to the damage done.

If they want to defend themselves from Force-based attacks, there is already a Force skill for that ... its called (appropriately enough Force Defense.

That adds a Force bonus to any applicable saving throw to defend against a Force-based attack ... for example Force Defense would give a boost to a Will save to resist Force Grip, or a Reflex save to resist Force Strike, etc.

After reading over some force powers again, Force grip and Force strike state it is "deals X physical damage". Where Force lighting says "deals X energy damage". To me this would mean while the source is the force, it is manifested in different types. (although i wish they would be more specific when they say physical damage vs saying "slashing" damage)
