Star Wars Saga: Two High-Level Characters

An hour or two!? That's too much. Even for a novice. I thought the new edition was supposed to fix this.

I wouldn't worry about that.

I've actually been clocking my NPC creation times. I've got it down to under a half hour for a 20th level character, which isn't bad at all after just a week of having the book. Core-only D&D would be fourty-five minutes to an hour, and Core-only d20 Modern would be at least a half hour. Adding supplements could easily take D&D into the two-hour range, especially for a caster.

Starting with 20th level characters was almost certainly a bad idea. I learned to stat Saga characters by starting them at 1st level and advancing them, only building them from scratch at 20th once I had a grasp of how they grew.

I'd also say those three builds probably didn't need every drop of multiclassing they had, by any means. I'd say the standard builds will be one base class and one PrC, or one base class and two PrCs for force users (Sith Apprentice and Sith Lord, Jedi Knight and Jedi Master, or Force Adept and Force Disciple, depending on tradition).

I updated what levels each feat and talent were gained.

As far as multiclassing goes-if you want lots of skills, you have to multi-class, it is a fact of life.

True, most PCs will likely not multiclass like this-and that makes life go much more quickly when making PCs.

I can make a 20th level Jedi in much less than an hour---overall, a very elegant and streamlined system.

I think he was taking his time. An hour is a lot of time for star wars. I put together a 15th level character when I first got the book and it took about 30 minutes (I was also distracted by the TV).
I remember reading the previews and seeing the claims that a high level character can be made in just as much time as the lower levels. I think this was a bit of an exaggeration, there are more feats and talents to pick at high level.

That said once familiarity is gained with the system I can see high level character generation taking not long. Once you were familiar with the game I could see a 20th level character being done in about 15 - 20 minutes.

An experienced player might be able to make a high level character in the same amount of time, but certainly not when your just learning the rules. But with a player comfortable with the talents, classes, and feats...I'm sure he could lay out a character in no time.
