Stargate campaign

Crothian

First Post
I'm starting a new table top game for people who know the series well. One guy knows it better then I. That's not going to be a problem, but I do want to introduce a few different things.

The first planet they go to is going to be an out of the way planet for the System Lords though ruled by one. It is going to have bronze age technology, a sigle human settlement with some Jaffa overlords. It is not going to be that important for the system lord, and if the PCs want they can perhaps free the people. It won't be easy but the Jaffa are really not going to be the true threat on the planet. Dinosaurs will be. The humans will be ain a small valley and the dino threat will be elsewhere, but like any good SG team they should explore elsewhere. I'll probably have some ancient ruins elsewhere they can hear rumors on but of course the thunder lizards will be an obsticle.

So, how does that sound for a place to start? I like to start simple and build. It will introduce the name of the System Lord this group will have the bad luck of running into more then the others.

Sounds pretty awesome. Wish I could be playing as I am not currently involved in a Stargate campaign. I'm currently working up the preliminary for one though. Can't wait to start.

Hmmm...you've got me thinking Crothian. I believe I'll be designing a dino planet for my campaign as well. I'll be getting more use out of Dinosaurs That Never Were more this year than I thought. Thanks for the inspiration!

Lookin' good. If I might make a suggestion? If you're going with a TV-series style game, you might want to make overthrowing that minor Goa'uld the over-arching plotline of a half-season (10-12 missions) or even a full season (20-24 missions). One of the things about the Goa'uld is that even the minor ones are pretty sharp and can give neophyte SG teams a hard time. You might start out with the first mission taking them there and introducing them to the planet, then a few missions later send them back for an object/character/McGuffin, then a few missions later send them back to help incite a Jaffa rebellion, and then finally the very last one should be where they topple/defeat/kill the Goa'uld in question.

Or you could forget that crap and just let them go in and knock him off right away, and use that as the setup for further adventures. Just some thoughts.

So, P1X-157

This is a small out post for the System Lord (Unknown at this time). It has a population of a little over 10,000 humans and a few hundred Jaffa. Most of the technology is bronze age, though the Jaffa do have their energy weapos and some technology inside the Temple to (unknown God).

The Stargate is a little above the tree line on an dormant volcano (if you want dinos, you have to have valconos, I'm pretty sure that's the law). There is one road that leads down into the valley where all the people live. The path is a little overgrown as the Stargate is not used that often.

There are many sounds coming from outside the valley. They echo oddly off the mountains. These are the roars and calls of the native creatures called (unknown at this time) by the humans. At times a large flying reptile or more can be seen flying high up over head. The valley has three entrances, all of them have huge gates over 20 meters high at them. People watch from the top of these gates at all time.

The System Lord is not actually going to be on this planet. So, they can free it from the Jaffa/ convince the Jaffa to topple the temple/ do something that makes them feel free from the System Lord. But of course at some point the System Lord and his minions will come back.

What I'm thinking is that they will visit about a half dozen differnet planets that are all ruled by this same System Lord. And then once they get a feel of the System Lord's territories they can pick and choose where to engage the enemy. I have a second planet that is very different from this one forming in my mind already.

If you want to replicate the TV show, start PC's at about 5th level. Especially if you're throwing them up against Jaffa with armor.

Combat between low-level PC's and Jaffa is tedious at best, deadly at worst.

I am thinking of starting it all season 3 though. A lot of basic things in the series has been established and it gives plenty of things to build on.
