Stargate campaign

Actually I already picked out a different System Lord for this place.

Do others keep along with the series, in other words do thea characters here about what other SG teams are doing? So the players would learn the happens of the show from time to time. They just wouldn't be part of those plot lines. Or do you ignore the show's time line and just work on your own?

I think it would be possible for the SG teams to discuss what they are doing during mess or something, but I don't knoiw if that's something they would do.

I think it would get around. By season 3 every SG Team memeber should know not to get Zatted 3 times. Or that staff weapons aren't fun. I think it would be stupid to hide information like that in a military organization. Some Meta gaming could be allowed.

For Example- On the show, they zatted the crystals to open a door. One of the PC's gets to a locked door on a ship. Tells the GM "I am going to open the panel next to the door and Zat it. That should open it."
GM "Where did get that from."
Player "I saw it on the show."
GM "Give me an role playing way how you heard it."
Player" I heard Col O'Neal talking about something like that at lunch the other day."

I'm pretty sure every single team will be getting general Off-World security briefings, and more need-to-know oriented briefings based on their particular specialty.

These guys also live under a mountain together when not off-world, I'm sure they share many of their war stories. And on those occasions when the SGC is attacked, or a SG team gets into serious trouble, I'm sure any teams lying around might be ordered into battle.

Remember, even the diplomatic teams are supposed to be military officers with the capacity to deal with 'surprises'. A mass SGC battle would make a good combat climax for a season. Followed by a single SG team taking out a System Lord in a plot climax...

Another option for a 'chain of command'

I've been brewing up an SG campaign for a while now, and I am nearly ready to launch, but here's the idea I used to get out from under the SG-1 shadows.

Everything is run from the off-world Alpha or Beta sites.

Different Generals. Different SG teams. Different Planet. Different Everything.

And the beuaty of it is that they are tied into the main storyline, but nothing has ever been extensively detailed. You have free reign. They could even be the off-world equivalent of SG-1.

Remember, however, that those alternative sights are meant to be semi-secret. So you wouldn't want to directly dial the planets you explore from there. You'd probably travel by way of Earth allies.

Better yet, the missions might be related to the ongoing alliance with various worlds. The Beta or Alpha site teams focuses on keeping tabs on these friends and solving some of their problems- which sometimes leads to bigger missions than expected.

I know you just said you had it almost planned out. It was such a good idea my brain ran with it a bit :)

Hmm. Or maybe a Ceta-Sight, which is used as a base for undercover ops that can't be readily traced to Earth. That's if you want to emphasize the spy game over diplomacy.

Well, the early missions they can set up some allies and in later ones once the base is established they can keep an eye on the new allies. So, the idea has merit, just down the orad a bit. Thanks.

Stargates

It seems they always positioned close enough to the people living ont he planet so they can easily be located but far enough away so that no one notices the when the Stargate gets opened. Would it be to problamitic for some people to actually care who comes and goes in the Stargate? For instance I was thinking of placing the Stargate on a mountain that overlooks the village. The Stargatre faces outward so the people in the village can see a flash of Blue whenever the gate is activated. Since they are used to their God and his minions only using the gate they have a few moments to get ready for their arrivial.

Why would that be problematic?

In the show, the stargates are that far away for a number of reasons, mostly that liberated planets have forgotten their past and moved away from the gate. Plus, it adds dramatic tension to the show.

But I figure that many of the planets visited without episodes attached to them work differently. And in a few episodes, the gates were archeological digs or tourist attractions right at the edge of town.

The one rule in gate placement is that the gates were originally positioned as convenient places to go on a journey, and if they were moved it was because of earthquake or purpose. Who would put a Stargate on top of a mountain? Perhaps someone who wanted to defend it, like a secret escape route. Maybe there are the brittle remains of a tumbled fortress around the gate.

Its not on top just on the side over looking over the valley. It is there because the System Lord is a god of sun of sorts and he used to visit this place in the morning with the rising sun (the gate is east of the village so the sun rises behind the gate and mountain). So, they believe he is responsible for the rising sun.
