I need some help dealing with a variety of unexpected circumstances that arose with my group the other day -- the explanation is kind of a long story though, so please bear with me...
SG-11 has been through some tough times of late. Two missions ago, they lost a full half of their roster trying to help the Tok’ra escape from the Replicators. On the next mission, they were assigned two replacements – a Jaffa and a Tollan refugee – only to lose another member, and thus leaving one founding member of the team (a Russian) both alive and in charge of the team.
Filling the empty slot with a Navy Seal sniper, they set out for their most recent mission. They were survey a naquadah-rich world and attempt to bolster a peaceful relationship with the Aztec-decended population. As they were surveilling the area to determine what kind of reception they might receive, they found evidence that the planet was under some sort of Fascist rule – in fact, judging by the banners they saw, it seemed almost Nazi-esque. The mission was scrubbed.
Back at the SGC, the Russian (who is currently team leader) received a call from a Major General in the NID. You see, a while back the NID told the Russian to steal tech from an SGC mission for them, and he basically told them where to stick it. So of course they weren’t happy. Well, during the course of this phone call, it became apparent that the NID not only held a grudge, they had an interest in this particular world and its naquadah. They forced the Russian to suggest a military coup operation to Hammond, or else his ties would be revealed and he would likely be jailed. Reluctantly, the Russian agreed. Turns out Hammond himself had received an over-his-head call as well, and was forced to agree to the operation, assigning SG-3 to it as well. The Tollan was visibly unhappy with this, but had no choice.
The two teams returned to the world, geared up for a coup. Further surveillance revealed to them that the world had once been under Goa’uld rule, and that the Fascists, whoever they were, had defeated and routed them. Thus, the populace likely wasn’t going to take their ruler being slaughtered too lightly. Several guards were encountered and killed, one being kept prisoner for later questioning. Leaving SG-3 to guard the prisoner and the Gate, SG-11 moved to town where they found the “town hall” – a large structure with a pyramid on top.
The pyramid turned out to be a Goa’uld ship, which was apparently still functional. Through the communication orb, they learned that the liberator of this world was apparently human, and would arrive there by ship in the morning. At this point, more questions arose when they realized he WASN’T another Goa’uld like they’d expected. At this point, the Russian attempted to come clean with the rest of the team about his NID ties, and no one knew what to do next. It was decided that three of SG-3’s members would guard the ship, while the fourth would stay with the prisoner and would return to Earth with SG-11 to speak with Hammond for further orders.
The members of SG-3 who were guarding the ship arrived on-scene, where SG-11 had degenerated into a lot of in-fighting. They began to head back to the Gate, when over their radios they heard the sounds of gunfire and screaming from the ship where they left SG-3. Racing back, they found the fourth member of SG-3 standing over the bodies of his comrades and preparing the ship for takeoff. He was NID all along! Suddenly the question became whether the NID was really after the ship all along… he was taken down and tied up as a prisoner to be returned to Earth, and SG-11 gained control of the ship.
Learning that the Fascist was entering orbit in a Ha’tak vessel, they used the pyramid ship to capture the smaller vessel and confront the Fascist, who at this point they were convinced had been supplied weapons by the NID as part of their overall plan (the guns the guards had been using had been antiquated German models with tiny bits of Goa’uld tech to fill in any gaps time had caused). Instead, he claimed he was a German Nazi – one of many who had escaped Earth at the end of World War II. Before they could ask any more questions or demand more explanation, a gunfight broke out and he was killed (this effectively causing the coup they were ordered to do in the first place).
SG-11, deciding they’d done more than enough, left the ships near the Gate with the intent of sending the Tok’ra to retrieve it, and returned to Earth with their prisoners and many questions…
So here’s the things I’ve got to deal with now:
The current status of the planet. The death of the Space Nazi officer in charge of the world is going to have a profound effect on the populace, and they may rebel against the guards that are left. I’m planning on leaving the world in the background for a while before I handle all the fallout, but it’s still go to be figured out.
The ship. The NID are going to want to get ahold of it somehow, and Earth has to figure out what the hell to do with it in the first place. It’s not like they can just part it on a airfield.
The Russian. His ties with the NID can’t be overlooked, and he should likely be punished for his ties and maybe even some of his actions. I’ve ruled out demotion, though, because all the other team members are so much lower in rank that he’d still be team leader anyways and that makes it kinda pointless.
The naquadah on the world. It’s a good-sized amount, but there’s no mining operation set up and to do so now is going to require a closer realtionship to the population than they’re likely to have now.
The infiltration and deaths of SG-3.
And I’m sure there’s more I’m not thinking of. So as you can see, I’ve got a lot to deal with now, and I’m sure there’s more I’m not even thinking of. Any other issues you see, or any solutions to anything I’ve written above, would be great. Thanks.
