Fan-freakin-tastic episode. Hadn't noticed the the prior was Smoking Man. I'm going to have to watch it again over the weekend.

I think we were making Last Samurai parallels about ten minutes into the episode.

Soldier is captured.
Enemies allow the soldier to roam freely in their peaceful natury land.
Soldier is trained by the enemy and grows to appreciate them.
Enemies are led by an enlightened individual who seems to seek philosophical engagements.
Soldier grows to understand and be understood by said people.

Ah, but it was a good episode aside from the obvious continuity error that newborn Jaffa don't have to be implanted with a symbiote to survive. Teal'c was going to stop his son from being implanted and wasn't worried that he would ever need one. Sometimes being a geek and knowing all this stuff is so troublesome.

I wasn't too thrilled by the prospect of The Last Samurai, but I guess now I'm going to have to rent it.

Not only is it a good movie, but its historical. The events of the movie did actually, pretty much, happen.
