Stargate- was there ever a RPG?

EDIT- OK I see that AEG produced a D20 version of the TV show- was there ever anything written around the movie? prior to D20?

I worked on those books during my stint on the Spycraft design team, and I know we did several things to help reconcile the differences between the movie and the TV Series. I had a lot of fun working on the Stargate line, and ran a couple of pretty successful campaigns. If you end up picking up the books, I think you'll find a lot of them reference the events from the movies and extrapolate from those events as well.

The first couple of seasons had some hit and miss episodes but by the end of its run, the SG-1 TV series was light years better than the movie. In fact, its one of my favorite sci-fi series of all time.

There was a Stargate RPG. It was published by AEG and was based off the Spycraft d20 rules. It rocked because Spycraft rocked and because Stargate rocked. But it is out of print. I believe MGM (which owned Stargate) got bought out by Sony and Sony decided not to renew the license for the RPG, so AEG had to cease publishing it.

But you don't actually need anything specific in the now out-of-print rulebooks to play a Stargate RPG. The setting is modern military, and its easy to houserule stuff for the various aliens and their tech. All you need is the core Spycraft 2.0 rulebook and you are golden.

I own all the hard copy books and have been running a game, first in SC1.5 (the SG-1 RPG) and SC2.0. The books are very well done. The good news (sort of, anyway) is that AEG put the core book and one of the source books up on DrivetThruRPG. It's only sort of good nes because they're mediocre scans. There's a lot of info for doing SG-1 in SC2.0 over on Crafty's web site though.

Thanks everyone for the comments- I'll have to put the first season SG1 DVD on my B-day/Xmas wishlist or something.

As for the AEG stuff, I'm sure it's excellent, but I am not a fan of D20 in the least, so I'll pass on that-maybe see if I can find some conversion work to other systems I prefer.

The series (and it's spinoff, Atlantis) are like, a million trillion times better than the movie.

That said, the Movie is canon to the series, you could quite easily run the series game using just Abydos...

Just FYI, the first few episodes are... uhh... Well, let's just say they're not my favorites. So don't judge the series based on those (in particular, the characters hadn't quite settled down at that point, e.g. Carter was an annoyingly vocal feminist-- a trait which thankfully didn't end up sticking around very long...)
