Starmantle

Aleolus

First Post
OK, I have found three different versions of this spell, and I want to know which one is the "Correct" one. I'll include the one in my BoED below, and then tell you the other versions I have seen/heard of afterwards.

Starmantle
Abjuration
Level: Joy 7, Sorc/Wiz 6
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: touch
Target: One living creature touched
Duration: 1 minute/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes (Harmless)

This spell manifests as a draping cloak of tiny, cascading stars that seem to flicker out before touching the ground. The cloak forms over the target's existing apparel, and sheds light as a torch, though this is not the mantle's primary function.
The Starmantle renders the wearer impervious to nonmagical weapon attacks and transforms any nonmagical weapon or missile that strikes it into harmless light, destroying it forever. Contact with the Starmantle does not destroy magical weapons or missiles, but the Starmantle's wearer is entitled to a Reflex save (DC 15) each time he is struck by such a weapon. Success indicates that the wearer takes only half damage from the attack, rounded down.
Material Component: A pinch of dust from a pixie's wing (20gp)

Now, I have also heard of this spell doing the same thing, but not turning nonmagical attacks into light, and I have even heard one person say that in his BoED, it simply granted a certain amount of DR for the duration of the spell! Which is the "Official" effect, and what do you're BoED's list it as? (Page 108, Book of Exalted Deeds)

Unless there was an errata, which I am unaware of, I think the BoED one is the only official version.

Hue, (if I am am able to call you that on the boards..)

Like I said before, the magic item and the spell have slightly different effects from each other but the end result is the the same overall.

I don't know who told you it gives dr, but there isn't anything in the text to support such a claim.

That's why I'm asking, because he was reading directly from his BoED, and it had a completely different effect! It wasn't even similar to the one listed in my book.

And Thanee, all three are from BoED, just three different ones.
