So setting Tod aside (ahem) for now.

2024 D&D is three very big books and is definitely not simpler nor (in spite of many organizational changes) does it feel particularly more accessible then 2014. New player acquisition remains a big question mark. But they clearly have a plan, and at least one product.

Also, if the Stranger Things one is free standing, then it is basically a second starter set, with a different style, and different 80s callbacks. (But each have their retro touches, thank goodness).

With two loaded box sets and three books coming up they clearly still have resources. We will see how it all goes.

As for Tod. Apparently they were doing him the favor, or something like that. There is certainly space for better RPG content on Youtube. Hope it works out for him.

I'd hardly call this a deep dive.....I still don't really know anything useful about the ST box (other than being 4 adventures).

The MM, Dragon Delves, 2 box sets and 3 setting books makes 7 for the year, which ties 2019 for most 5e releases in a year, at least in print. Otherwise you are going well back into 4e for that many.

They were at GenCon doing a press tour. He's press now.
That's not a favor. That's what people do.

I am definitely all-in on Heroes of the Borderlands. Already planning it on being the "board game" my family plays on my birthday.

As happy as I am to see the Eddie Munson starter set, I buy stuff to use it, not collect it, and I'm not sure I'd use this. We'll see if I get whipped up into a Stranger Things frenzy during the final season.

I really hope they plan to do Heroquest-style expansions for Borderlands. New classes, new standees, new adventures, higher levels, all seem obvious and relatively easy to do.

If they don't, I might just start cranking them out on DMs Guild, assuming there's nothing about the product that would run afoul of the licensing rules there.
