D&D 5E Starter Set Character Sheet Revealed!

Down with skills! Boo arbitrary lists of verbs and apparent but false equivalence! Rabblerabbblerabble! :)

I like the prominent display of this character's storyline. I like that the character sheet provides a good response when the characters all meet at a tavern and the bartender asks "So, what brings ye doughty swordswarriors to my humble domicile, que?" (because he has a speech impediment).

I'm looking forward to seeing how a more complex character like a wizard or cleric fares, what with the spells, slots, &c.

I would have preferred #2 stay at gaining temp hit points, but I cannot think of any DMs allowing multiple short rests in a row. Aside from that #2 and #3 refreshed on a rest as of the last playtest.

I stand corrected on #3. I kept thinking that Action Surge was per long rest. I'm sure I knew the correct version, but I haven't seen many fighters using it, so my mind must have reverted back a packet or two.

I don't see why not to allow short rests in a row, if nothing prevents it. Most short rest abilities work just fine if you keep doing them every hour.

I'm hoping that they have done something like limit you to three short rests per day. I can live with that.

Otherwise I have to houserule it to temporary hit points from the get-go, and I'd rather not do that. The only reason that I could tolerate that houserule, is because temporary hit points are actually more valuable in a fight, since they can raise your hit points above your max--so the character isn't overall less effective due to the switch.

Aren't you limited by hit dice already? And short rests are an hour long, multiples pretty much turn into a long rest really quickly.

The less arbitrary limitations we see in the rules, the better, IMO.

Another feature of short-rests is that casters can recover their spells (1/2 their caster level in spell levels) if they can recover spells via multiple short-rests, long rests are pretty much pointless.

Hmmm. Maybe the effects gained from a short rest might only become available a certain amount of times per day (that makes more sense than not allowing the rest, anyway).

Also, I don't know about you, but I find sleep pretty useful, and I'm sure there will be rules for making long rests necessary.

Gut reaction - Action surge is OP - fighter gets a whole extra action, at 5th that means 4 attacks in one round. Oh well. Expect a lot of multiclass fighters, I guess.
