D&D 5E Starter Set from Amazon arrived

My box set was on my desk when I got to work this morning. The guy who put it there told me it was on the ground, on the inside of the office gate. Looks like someone just tossed it over and considered it "delivered" Fortunately, the outside of the box doesn't seem to have taken any damage that I can tell. But I'll known once I remove the wrap and open it up.

Still excited though!

As there is no Amazon.au (Australia) I ordered via Amazon.com. I got my shipping notification for mine and my friend’s Starter Set about 16 hours ago. I’m hoping that they will arrive next week some time, but it could be the week after that.

I considered ordering through Amazon, but decided on supporting a local (Australian) business and preordered through Milsims Games. Last update I got indicated that they wouldn't receive the stock until around the official release date, then it could be posted out to customers. Still refreshing the order status page several times a day, just in case!

I'm still waiting on an order from MilSims from March this year. Despite all the items being listed as "in stock" on their website when I placed my order, when I rang up a couple of months ago to ask when my order was going to ship I was told that they were still trying to get in 4 out of the 5 items in my order. Their website states that if they back-order items they will ship them to you separately when they arrive, but they don't appear to be following that policy with my order.

That, coupled with this thread on WargamerAU - http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=168390 - means I had little to no faith in MilSims being able to deliver the items on time. MilSims used to be very good, but I think their service has slipped quite considerably in the past few years.

I'm also in Australia. Here's my tale of "woe":

I recently (last week) moved out of the Sydney CBD area, and back to the Blue Mountains (where I grew up). Knowing that there aren't any game shops up here, I ordered from Amazon, and was pleased when my Starter Set was shipped in the early morning of the 15th (which would have still been the 14th in the US, I think).

Then I'm out yesterday with the family, walking around Katoomba. We turn up this little side arcade and BOOM, there's the Starter Set, staring at me from a shop window. I was a little stunned, and I stood outside for while a long time, trying to think of someone I could offload a second set onto, so I could buy one right then and there. Alas, there was no-one, and I could think of no other excuse. My partner went into the shop and asked a few questions - apparently it had only been open for two months, and they'd received the sets that morning.

I still may have folded and bought it had I been alone, but cooler heads prevailed and I walked away empty-handed.

It's okay - there's really no reason I need it right this moment. I don't yet have a group established to run it for (though I'm working on it). And it's really cool to know that there's a new game shop just down the road. It's just that I got caught up in a bit of that old "Christmas morning" excitement, and would have really liked to take it home.

Ah well, only have to hold out for two weeks *sits on hands*.

If your tale of woe involves finding a cool new game store just down the road from you, I'd say the only thing that will hurt from that is your wallet! :)

I made the mistake of calling my wife at noon to see if mine had arrived. Of course it had, and I had to wait a few hours before I could come home and start reading. I think I'm going to take the day off when the PHB and Tyranny of Dragons ship next month.

Just got a "status: shipped" notification from Milsims. Woohoo! Should be here by Friday. It's gonna be a great weekend.

I'm actually glad I didn't order from Amazon. I walked into my local BAM last week and they had them out on the shelves. I've flipped through it a few times (and like what I see), but just haven't been able to properly force myself to sit down and read it cover-to-cover.

The FLGS told me that Starter Sets will be wending their way from Australia to New Zealand via a complicated delivery system involving kangaroos and rowboats. I should have one in my hot little hand late next week.

Which will arrive quicker if I don't think about it as much.
