How's it going to work out with you having already read ToEE? As a DM I wouldn't be happy running for someone who had read the module. A big part of enjoyment, at least for me, is the slow reveal of hidden information, the exploration.

This is a problem generally with the classic modules, they're too well known, particularly with ToEE as it also exists as a PC game.

Dude,

I'm jealous. Not extremely so as my group and I play 2nd edition. But I agree that the 1e ranger is the best for me. I use the ranger out of OSRIC so it's good.

Ahhh, Greyhawk. I've decided to honor the tradition of the 'Hawk and use an anagram of my own name for my character, and thus was born Izar Talon, Ranger of Keoland, 3rd son of a minor nole who's out to make a name for himself, and do some Good for the world (He's got an 18/95 Strength and a 16 Constitution, oh yeah!!)

Excellent name selection process, Aaron :D

I'm really looking forward to a nice old game of 1E (and my Ranger!!!), and hoping that after ToEE, we could do GDQ or something, because I've never been through any of those old classic modules.

I may get to run S4 Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth for our group of AD&Ders, and apparently none of them have played it before. I'm really looking forward to that, so I understand your enthusiasm completely!

Has anyone else played any 1E lately, as a break from 3E or otherwise? I mean, I now lots of people still play 1E, and I certainly don't begrudge them their preference. We'll be returning to our main 3E campaign eventually, but for now we're going to do a good old school 1E dungeon stomp!

Sure, there's a lot of AD&D players still around. Check out Knights & Knaves and Dragonsfoot, and Delver's Dungeon, which are among the best AD&D forums/sites out there.

Did I mention how much I love Greyhawk? He gave me the option of a 3E Realms game and the 'Hawk game (me being his primary sounding board for our games) and, although I love the Realms as well, it's been too long since I've played in a Greyhawk game and I lept at the chance for some Greyhawk.

If you're looking for some GH pointers, we can certainly help you there too :D

If I recall correctly, the last 3e campaign we played was the Temple. I had asked the other guy who usually DMs to run the G series, since I'd never played them, & he was running us through T1-4 to get us up to appropriate level first. It was a blast. Unfortunately, he got burned out running both our Monday night game & his Saturday game, so we never got to the Gs. (u_u)

The last D&D campaign we played was classic D&D (B4 & X1). It was also a blast.

So, plenty of old school goodness around here.

(Not to mention our recent stints with Marvel Superhero, classic Traveller, Shadowrun 2e, & probably other things I've forgotten.)

It all depends. I never ran ToEE, but I was a player in college. Almost 18 years later, I can't really remember the module enough to ruin my experience with it now if I was lucky enough to find someone to run it. I once DM'ed A1-4 and barely remember it. Shoot, I have Dm'ed B2 probably a dozen or so times over the years and still forget what is in some of the caves. Now, I am almost embaressed, yet somewhat happy, to admit I havee neither DM'ed or played in the G series. I am slightly familiar with it but not enough to ruin it when someone someday finally runs me through it. Saltmarsh? I have no familiarity with.

I hope your Paladin didn't slit his throat and curse his god as he died! ;)

No, I had too much fun with him. Since he deemed the area lawless and full of hidden conspirators he gave up turning the bad guys he captured in to the local authorities. Instead he would give them three choices:

1. Willingly convert to Pelor
2. Choose to be executed on the spot after being allowed to pray to their god for an hour
3. Willingly be given a trial by my paladin which the bad guy would get to plead his case, although this would likely lead to number 2, but without the chance to pray first

It was a lot of fun. :) Especially when I kicked the decapitated corpse one particular Nulb pirate captain from his dock after he chose number two.

::casts raise thread::

I love AD&D. We got started, after eating and BSing, about 7 PM last night. I closed up my screen and calc'd XP at about 10:30. In the 3 and a half hours between, the PCs managed to fully explore and clear the entire ground level of the Moathouse. We had 5 good, exciting fights and lots of searching and exploring and even some role-playing (when the other 3 PCs informed the elf wizard that if he ever again slept all of them in addition to the enemies, and then slit the throats of all the enemies before waking them, he'd have to learn to cast spells without somatic components).

I honestly do not believe, after 7 years of experience with it, all that could have fit into such a short session using 3.5 rules.

Yay for old school gaming!
