Starting above 1st level - player reaction?

That's weird, my post to open this thread seems to have been overwritten by other text.

Starting at 20th Level

Just started a new game, as DM, and my players are 20th level. Yes, it is challenging for all of us to get used to their powers and abilities. Also, I thank my players for putting in the effort to make their guys as that effort is substantial. We had fun in our first game and we all like the higher stakes of high level gaming. Just like low levels, death can be around any corner, but you get an extra kick in the pants dying at high level because someone in the party could usually have prevented it.

I guess, speaking for myself and most of my players, we are just tired of low level D&D. We've all played a ton of D&D, most of it low level, and we are tired of running from orcs, slaying bugbears, etc. . We all want to unlock epic magics/abilities, slay deadly fiends, and maybe create a few large explosions. Oh, and rountinely roll over 20d6s.

I have almost always started a new D&D campaign as 1st level. It just where you start. It also teaches players not to attack as the first option. Running away, parleying, begging for mercy - these are all good character building traits :)
