Starting New Kalamar Campaign

There is a god of war in Kalamar called "The Old Man" who is responsible for battle strategy, etc. He is perfect for dwarves. There might be better titles than "Old Man" for dwarves, but that is what I remember the god as... his church is like the Temple of Armed Conflict. I am almost positive he is L/N.

There is also "The Knight of the Gods" that is more of a L/G paladin type god, but should be good for dwarves as well.

There is also a C/N war god called the Battle Rager

For locations, check Bet Kalamar. I believe there is an old empire of dwarves in the Ka'Asa mountains (not sure on the exact spelling) that was defeated and driven out by Emperor Kabori. They have been scattered around, and could have fallen into barbarian-hood.

hmmm....

I really suggest you wait and read the campaign book first. Unlike many settings I have dealt with KoK has the religions very integrated with the world, and I think it is one of the best things they did. I am not familiar with the book you mentioned, but it may be easier to integrate the crunchy parts with KoK than to try and replace the KoK gods. (unless you are just adding gods, and not replacing them.)

I would not use the Ka'asa mountains, seems way too civilized... but there are lots of mountains around, perhaps in the Wild lands, there are lots of humanoids in the mountains, so the dwarves may be less 'civilized' (IIRC)

But seriously, I would recommend you guys take a couple of weeks and play Paranoia or Toon or something, and give you time to read the Campaign and Players books.

One thing I am doing, is having the characters made from just the WotC PHB, and letting them 'discover' the KoK stuff as time goes on.

Also, keep in mind that in Tellene (the continent/world) there are areas where bigotry and prejudices are the norm, and the dwarves would not be welcomed, possibly even enslaved. For me, it makes for more adventure hooks, but you will want to keep that in mind when picking a location.

Also, I really do recommend you head over to the kalamar boards.

This is cool. Within a couple of the churches mentioned in the book, there are different factions.

I could see two clerics of Terak the god of war, one being lawful good the other being lawful neutral. The lawful good one worships the Knight of the Gods aspect, and the Lawful Neutral worships the Old Man aspect.

Thanks for all the information, I appreciate it.

I plan on overlaying the gods that appear in Kalamar with the ones in Book of the Righteous. Instead of calling the god "The Old Man" I would use the name for the god that best fits, in this case it looks like the God of War.

I realize that the campaign setting of Kalamar has their own mythology and set Pantheon but am really hoping that I can take a lot out of the BotR and mesh it in. The BOTR is hands down the best diety supplement I have ever seen. For those that do not know of the book, or have and have not picked it up, check out the review section everyone that has reviewed it gave it 5 out of 5 stars. It really is that good.

It would probably for the most part fit a homebrew world better, but I believe with a little work, it can be adapted to anything.
