Alright, I want to make planetouched and other races a bit more appealing. I will do this by beefing up the other races with background starting packages like the following:
Monastic Scholar:
Requirement: Literacy
+2 Wis and +2 Int. People with a scholarly monastic background have taken the path of book learning to come closer to their spiritual goals.
Skill Focus in any knowledge skill for free. All knowledge skills are permanent class skills.
Elven paragon:
You are very much like the typical elven hero of legend.
Requirement: Elf
+2 Dex, +2 Int.
Weapon Focus in Weapon group Long blades, Short Blades or Bows for free. (I use Weapon group rules).
etc.
The problem is, I don't know how to balance them properly. What do you think: Is two stat adjustments and a feat, perhaps a small bonus elsewhere (such as permanent class skills) going to be enough for people to select a starting package instead of a LA+1 race? Should I give more or less?
