Starting small in the Realms...

I would prefer something in the Western Heartlands, but I could live with the Dales. The Western Heartlands became near and dear to my heart back in the days of Baldur's Gate.

The Return of the elves to Cormanthyr makes this the logical place, since this was the last major political shake-up to date. Since it looks like the Shades may be taking over Sembia, that would place the Dales and Cormanthyr smack dab in the middle of some pretty dark neighbors.

Although I've been a fan from the beginning, I have always avoided the Dales. Maybe it was the presence of Elminster, maybe it was the emphasis on elves and drow in the region, maybe it was something else I haven't been able to figure out - but the Dales have always left me cold. I just think it's the most logical place to use as a default setting.

If I had to pick another location on the basis of logic, I would choose the the North. The future of the Silvermarches is currently being previewed in The Orc King. Since Salvatore is so popular, and WOTC is likely hoping to draw more gamers from the Drizz't enthusiasts, this would be a good choice as well.

It's a shot in the dark but... Nesme.
It's popular from the R.A. Salvatore fiction, it was in the Demon Stone video game, and Salvatore went out of his way to raise it from the ashes after utterly destroying it in a previous book.

Also, Nesme has always been a POL location. On the edge of the Troll Moors, surrounded by enemies, and even the path to Silverymoon being extremely dangerous for large, well-armed caravans.

I believe there's a note about Nesme in the Orc King where Drizz't taled about the ruins of Nesme, anyone care to elaborate how accurate this is?

Until January we won't know how far the new campaign is being set...

Just a note

I think it'll be somewhere in the Western Heartlands. The wilderness and variety of terrain in that part of the core realms is very interesting for what PoL seems to be about.
I don't know about its treatment in late 2e or 3e products, but the town of Scournubel seems like a good candidate.
Other likely candidate could be Daggerford. Under Illefarn essentially was PoL and a stand alone setting.
C.I.D.

Just a thought but wasn't there a story in the Seven Sisters regarding the Drow invading Scornubel well it does provide another potential for it being a POL anyone care to suggest either more reasons for a specific site or suggest others?

I'm betting on Eveningstar.
Me, too. The 2E module didn't have nearly enough details on the town. IIRC, it's one of Ed Greenwood's starting places for his original FR PC's, so I would bet that there is a ton of unused material available.

Plus, it's by far got one of the most evocative names of any TSR/WotC location. (Compare to, say, Phlan.)
