Starting the WLD

First Post
Well, I have decided that I am going to take the plunge and begin the world's largest dungeon saturday. We hadn't decided on who in the group was going to DM it (like anyone other than myself would anyway), so they will be a little suprised, as they are somewhat expecting to play their current campaign. I am going to use the point-buy system to make like 10 characters and let them choose.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what 10 characters I should make? I was thinking of the typical combos with a few different characters. Human Fighter, Elven Wizard, Halfling Rogue, Dwarven Cleric.
I'm open to any suggestions maybe even some builds if you're up to it.

Thanks,

main reason is because it will take most of the session for the six of them to all finish characters, they are slow like that sometimes.

I just started WLD as well and I will have to say I would be afraid of a revolt among the players when they find out they will be playing in a long running dungeon crawl with a character not of their making.

Once they enter they are not going back and they will be stuck with the pregen for a while due to the nature of the dungeon.

Also, while it may take them some time to make their characters they will be more familiar with the combo's, feats, skills, ...etc.

Are you trying to surprise them with the new campaign and don't want them to know what is going on until they walk in to play?

If it was me I would warn them and let them make their characters before the session.

For my game each player had 2 characters to start with only one of them actiive for each session.

The rest are healing and resting back "At Camp".

In addition to what Spectre said above, make sure they have at least 2 rogues, and 2 clerics, and 2 sorcerers. Beyond that - have fun!

This I totally understand...but if using point buy could you just ask them to do it ahead of time? Let you preapprove concept and then have a veto if they bring something unfit to the table? Maybe even tell them that they can either do that or choose one of your pregens? Might make people happier. Some don't mind pregens, others HATE them. Don't want those bad feelings right in the door.

Have to agree with the others. Don't pregen. Let them make them. I sometimes have just as much fun sitting around making characters with friends as I do gaming. It's part of the fun.

On a side note, we played WLD last night (my first time), the group plays WLD on the weeks I am on hiatus. 4 of us died! Where is that WLD graveyard thread... :)

I have I think six pregen characters made. Using point buy and DM genie I will allow them to choose or create their own tomorrow morning.

Also, could someone with the search function point me to those player map pics? I will be using the projecter setup and I need the player maps in digital form.
