So, is anyone else playing Startrek Online?
I played for a while using a 5 day buddy pass, and I was hooked and have now ordered the full game... We'll see how long it can occupy me. Or how much.
I think what hooked me the most is really simply the fact that it's a Star Trek game - and the got that done pretty well. The ships look authentic, the controls look "trekky", and they have all the Startrek sounds. The sounds of phaser bans photon torpedoes and tricorder scans just appeal to my inner Startrek Fan.
I think only a Star Wars MMORPG could achieve the same. (Hi Bioware!)
There are cetainly flaws - ground mission/combat aren't as much fun to me as space combat (even though the latter is theoretically more repetitive!), and the servers seem to be a little... overworked occassionally.
I still haven't make sense of the various "resources", science stuff, energy units, merits, badges and all that...
Thinking a moment about it - I think one of the reasons space combat appeals to me more because it replicates the Star Trek atmosphere better. Ground combat with shields and all that is not really as it was depicted in Startrek. (Even though it would make sense to a 100% if this is what they had on the ground!)
