Starwars Battlefront: The Inevitable Thread

Has anyone figured out how to make the jet pack troopers fly or make the droideka roll?

Droideka roll is the same command to enter a vehicle (0 on the keypad). I was fooling around and discovered it by accident.

Can anyone control this thing when it rolls? The slightest turn and it veers way out of control. Its frustrating. And for some reason the droideka refuses to strafe left or right, turning instead. I guess its meant to roll out and deploy like a mobile turret. I like its forcefield and rapid fire blasters tho.

The droideka are soo annoying to control. I havent got the hang of it either. And needing a new video card doesnt help things.

Also doing a double jump with the space bar will activate the jet pack. Took me forever to figure that out. Kinda poor documentation on some of the controls IMHO.

But the game is fun..maybe not as balanced as BF or Unreal, but playing in the Battle of Hoth is cool. I need a new video card-did I already say that? :)

I just got this game for the PC late yesterday but only had time to play it for the last few hours.

The game absolutely rocks, both in single-player and multiplayer modes! And there's hardly any lag at all on my DSL with me running the game at 1600x1200 resolution, and the music and sound really enhances the experience. :D

I noticed that, like in Unreal Tournament 2004, I end up playing in first-person prespective on foot and in gun-turrets, and in third-person perspective in all vehicles. For some reason, this is different than in the Battlefield series, where I play in all the vehicles and gun-turrets in first-person perspective. I have yet to ride an AT-AT, though, so I'm still not sure if first-person or third-person perspective is better in that.

A bit of advice for those who (like me) initially had trouble maneuvering the vehicles: for some reason, I kept trying to move left and right using my mouse, and kept wondering why I couldn't make sharpter turns. Then I remembered that that's what the A and D keys are for (my movement keys are set up in the default WASD format). Once I got used to that, riding vehicles got a lot easier and a lot more fun.

Well, it's off to play more Star Wars Battlefront, I suppose. ;)

That wasn't what I was after at all, but in re-reading my own post it appears I could be a bit clearer on the matter. I was wondering how well Vehicle vs non-vehicle is balanced. Are there effective personal anti-vehicular weapons? Are Vehicles so overwhelmingly powerfull that facing one without a vehicle of your own means you're in for a quick trip to your nearest spawn point?

Those of you that played the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 will know exactaly what I mean. Most of those maps were simply driver vs driver matches, as being outside a vehicle meant you were nothing more than a kill waiting for the nearest enemy vehicle to spot you and do something about it.

Well in my opinion.... things seem a little unbalanced depending on the map. All maps seem to have vehicles of some sort as well as defensive turrents/guns. AT ATs are screaming chariots of death on the Hoth level, I have issue with some of the clone war levels too. Some of the maps seem a bit off too. Of course it does depend on the amount of bots a server has, etc..And some levels are big vehicle dominated it seems like the Genosis or Hoth. But once the vehicles are destroyed I believe they are gone.

But I dont want to scare you off.. the game is great, although for the life of me Im still trying to figure out soem of the special weapons- the manual seems to have zero info on some movement weapon bindings.

And Im sure patches and community stuff will address some issues. All in all minor niggles.

The only thing I hate is the inclusion of npc bot Jedi heroes. If they are allowed on a map and are absolutely impossible to kill. I hate em.

By the by, is anyone having issues with server lag? I have broadband cable and it seems few server give me consistent connection. I run usually 40-60 pingwise. It nothing major, just some servers tend to deteriorate over time.

Is it just me or the fact the games new? Ive never had such issues with Battlefield 1942. /shrug

Has anyone else played this on the XBox yet? I just rented this yesterday and I'm definitely going to buy it. The controls are pretty good, the graphics are Excellent at 480p, and the surround sound rocks! I definitely recommend playing this on a 72" screen >:)

I rented it for Xbox and I am very impressed. I heard the Xbox version was better than the PC version mainly because of the controls. I think the controls on Xbox are pretty good, although flying will take some practice. I would have bought it by now, but I just got Fable and some rpg books, so I'll have to wait a while. But I can't wait to get it and do some LAN parties with my friends.

I picked this up today for PS2. Awesome game, once I got the hang of the controls and such. I was just eternally angered that my first death came at the hands of a Gungan.

'Meesa gonna kill you dead!'

Anyone know what port you need to open for lan play?

I found the list of ports for Gamespy (about 8) but that's not doable. I should be able to open just one port for the LAN game, but I can't find it in the documentation or online.

Help! :)
