Stat-tastic?

Ferret

Explorer
I'm building a character and rolled the following stats: 8,8,10,11,12,17, I'm going to use the Half dragon template and I wondered where to put them all, if I was playing a ranger maybe the 17 in wisdom

What's wrong with having these scores? The stats don't really make the charater, it's the player who does.

These stats are going to make his character. Make his character dead. Har har har.

Seriously, he's going to have two good stats: whatever the 17 is in, and his strength. If he's going half-dragon (an overpowered template, thank god), I'd put the 12 into Str, the 17 into Con, the 11 into Dex, and the rest into who the hell cares. Though you could make a fine argument for 17 into Str and 12 into Con.

Bump the 17, bump the 11 when you get the chance. Wear full-plate. Kill things.

hehe, Not bad scores, in my mind, but I think I'd put a 12 in wisdom, and not the 17, unless you want to be all hyper environmentally aware.

Given that set of stats I would normally go caster, but I can't see playing a caster with an ECL+x race. hate giving up caster levels.

As for the comment about stats, I'm currently playing a character with 11, 10, 11, 15, 7, 13 in order after racial adjustments. I hate the stats, but love the character. So it can be good, as long as you are happy.

I agree. Its fun to have a weakness with a character. Do you think people would have remembered Raistlin so well if he'd had an 18 Con and Str? It was his frailty who made him who he is. One of the best loved characters in one of my games was an elf bard with a 17 dex, 16 cha, and a lot of 9's and 10's.

Don't mean to hijack the thread - what class are you looking at Ferret? That makes a big difference to what you want to do. With a half-dragon's bonuses I'd be tempted to stick the 8's in Str and Con (or Cha) to cover them up somewhat, average Dex seems in character, and stick the 11,12,17 in Int, Wis, and Cha (or Con) depending on the class.

As I have said before I'm going to play a ranger, and then I rolled the stats, I may rol them all again... Get a better average
