Stat-tastic?

Well, that's debatable. He had at least one artifact-level item (Staff of Magius), and gained an epic-level wizard's help when he needed it. He was pretty weak on his own. Sure, he survived the War of the Lance, but he was still a little fish at that point. He really only got insanely powerful after he took over the Tower of High Sorcery and got access to hundreds of spellbooks and more magic items. Anyways, I'd say that he got some DM's favor and then it spiralled out of control :)

Hijacking a little bit here, but...

Is it true the original player for Raistlin actually rolled a 3 on strength? In the sourcebooks his strength is usually bumped up quite a bit (around 7 if I recall correctly). We have a wizard in our campaign with a STR of 7. She casts Bull Strength every morning just so she can carry around her spell books and backpack.

No, the really scary part is that Raistlin's Intelligence score was only listed as a 17, despite his uber-smartness.

The deadliest, smartest villain (hero?) of the Dragonlance campaign setting... has the same intelligence score as Drizzt. :p

His CON was actually 10 as well. And he was casting 9th level spells with his 17 INT. In all editions, this is impossible.

He was a complete bad ass at the end of Chronicles. he basically ended the war of the lance on his own.

he dispelled Lord Ariakan's protections so Tanis could kill him.
He saves Tas with an Arcane Healing spell (!)
He saves Caramon from something he couldn't handle, then figuratively spits him in the face and says "I am no longe ryour brother"
He destroys the Elite Magic Users of Takhisis in Direct Magical combat.

he was as KEWL as Drizzt! Kidding, I actually really like his character. Especially in Summer Flame, where he no longer has his magic, and manages to be left alone on reputation and blast powder.
