I'm finishing a free adventure module set in the world of Magic: The Gathering's Innistrad. The planeswalker Sorin Markov will be making an appearance to chat with the PCs. I'm having difficulties figuring out how to stat him, however.
Variant Vampire Spellcaster (MM p298) seems like a good start. There are some differences between Sorin and D&D vampires, however:
- he's not technically undead but he reacts in ways similar to undead so I'll leave it as that.
- Never seen him use anything resembling Shapechanger, Misty Escape, or Spider Climb, so might cut those
- I think he's shown to regenerate before? So I'll keep that (otherwise I'd remove it and increase his HP accordingly)
- As far as vampire weaknesses, he HAS asked permission to enter residences twice if I recall (once in comics the other in a lore article), but it's never been confirmed that he can't enter without it, but I'll keep it
- he's either not sensitive to sunlight or uses magic to ignore it, likewise running water
- stake to the heart? no clue
- definitely doesn't need to lug around a coffin or grave dirt -- as mentioned, he's not technically undead anyway
- I don't recall him using anything resembling "Children of the Night," though he commonly summons vampire minions on his cards, so maybe modify it to that
As for spells, he's a sangromancer and uses blood magic, curses, and dominates minds. Will have to customize his list to account for that.
He's also been around for thousands of years, been to hundreds of planes. He's not power-hungry like Nicol Bolas, but he's experienced. He probably is a few levels higher than a normal vampire, but not epic levels.
Finally, he's a planeswalker. Pre-mending that would mean he had godlike powers (epic). Post-mending it seems all planeswalker spark means is the ability for at-will Plane Shift, only himself.
What do you guys think?
