Steaks - Steak sauce, Ketchup, Rubs or none of the above?

Depends on the steak. If I'm at an Applebees type restaurant, then steak sauce is practically mandatory, because their best steak just isn't flavorful enough to stand alone. If it's a good cut of meat done on the grill cooked just right (possibly with some Montreal steak spices), then it doesn't need steak sauce, though I might have a bit, just because I like steak sauce.
Exactly - at Outback or LoneStar or some place like that, give me some good ole A-1. If I'm cooking it myself, though, it doesn't need anything else.

Gah! Ketchup! what kind of heathen would desecrate a piece of meat with Ketchup??!? Even a bad steak is better plain than slathered in the evil red sauce.
One of the most profoundly embarrassing skeleton's in my families closet -- when I met my wife, she was putting ketchup on tacos. Now she only takes Pace Picante sauce. I'm still trying to work her up to Cholula's -- my little Mexican mistress with the wooden-topped bottle.

I hate ketchup.

You know, I really really like Outback's steaks. My wife does, too. For that matter, I like Texas Roadhouse as well, but I still think Outback's are better. Their Victoria's Filet is hard to beat.

I'm too cheap for Ruth's Chris. Maybe I'll go there on my anniversary this year.

I like Lloyd's BBQ sauce. Then again, it's even better on ribs. Forget a steak, gimme a rack of ribs any day!

I label Outback steaks as consistantly mediocre/good. You know you can usually go there and get a steak that won't be bad and tend towards good (but not quite to the great level). Coupled with their cheese fries and Blue Bell ice cream though we tend to end up there when we go out for a steak dinner on a pseudo budget.

People who put (American) ketchup on a steak need to be in jail.

And I prefer nothing if it's good. Some sort of sauce (TGIFRiday's Jack Daniel's sauce is kind of nice, for instance) if it's not-to-good is OK, but still a shame.
