There seem to be a lot of steampunk-type ideas floating around out there... Iron Kingdoms from Privateer sounds like it's steampunk (it has firearms, at least)... Atlas Games has put out a Mechanomancy web enhancement, which seems to be going along with a renaissance module...

Is it all really necessary? What do we want? Do we, as players, want a generic steampunk supplement, something similar to the PsiHB that details all the nuances of industrial revolution-style technology? Or is what there already too much?

For whatever reason...call me a stick in the mud, old fashioned, etc. I do not want Steampunk to be a part of any D&D campaign I am in.

I don't care for guns, steam engines, trains, contraptions...or the like. Just leave everything above basic technology out of my game.

Now, on the other hand, if you want to run a Steampunk game that I would play in...go for it. Just don't try to disguise it as D&D or mix it into D&D.

I love Steampunk... Gnomes and steampunk seem to merge together. The FR Gnomish Artificer has teh look and feel of Steampunk in my campaign.

I'm fond of steampunk. It definitely has its place in some campaigns. On the other hand, some people don't like it, which is fair enough. It doesn't *need* to be part of D&D, but it's nice to have it as an option.

Not enough poll choices.

I would use Steampunk -I do, to an extend- but only for certain campagins. I sure don't use it for all.

I don't like steampunk in general. Sometimes it is done well, but not very often. I wouldn't use steampunk books, but I know many people would, so I wouldn't begrudge anyone a book about it. I voted number 2.

I have gotten Deadlands and I like the idea of steampunk. Both Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms have some steampunks elements. Overall Im really into Deadlands. It has a more lethal setting.

You forgot the obligatory and oh-so-important, "Other".

I would love to have some decent steampunk rules/setting information for d20.

I just don't want it for D&D... Perhaps something along the lines of DragonStar.

Another take on Steampunk

In my D&D campaign, Gnomes were the only ones to develop steam technology, but Gnomes have been extinct for hundreds of years.

This means that steam technology exists, but is treated a lot like magic in that very few people, if anyone, can create it or repair it. Most people cannot even use it without some risk!
