Stephen Colbert talks D&D and LOTR on Conan O'Brien

Just because Time Magazine claims that someone is among the 100 most influential in the world, doesn't mean they really are.

Note to self: Make humorous comments more obvious.

Outside of North America, I doubt many people know who he is. I didn't until I saw this thread and looked him up on Wikipedia.

I've seen his speech on the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. It's on youtube, and recommended viewing. "You write 'Ooh, they're just re-arranging deck chairs on the titanic.' First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. We're not sinking, we are soaring! If anything, they're rearranging deck chairs on the Hindenburg."

See... this is why D&d players never get invited anyplace nice... we always end up at world domination...

That's so counter-productive. You really want curry favour with your future Absolute Ruler. The more parties you invite him to, the less torture chambers he invites you in. And with "invite", I mean, "drag into, kicking and screaming."

Nobody was getting picked on, KY. Colbert, a sizeable celebrity, was indulging in some good-humored celebration of his geek heritage on national TV. There is no downside here.

Hey, he picked on Gygax for beating the crap out of hin in the aerial battles :p

He didn't pick on anyone here, but Colbert's has, in the past, picked on people. We have a picker on the team now. :D

Maybe he is anti-gaming because of his first name... :p Then again, who knows, he could be a closet gamer.

I'm pretty sure Conan O'Brien is not only decidedly NOT anti-gaming, but also in fact played at some point in his life.
