Pathfinder 1E Stone shape and some other questions...

Hey gang. Trying to come to terms with "Stone shape" in the middle of combat. According to the spells
description, its a touch action. So if a druid were trying to entrap an opponent in a "cone" of stone, when
he touched the stone underfoot, wouldn't it have to be in the opponents square, since it forms where the
touched stone is? Also, if it's doing that, wouldn't it provoke an attack of opportunity?

He is level 13, so I reckon he can make 23 cubic feet, just enough to surround a medium sized creature or
less, and not very thick.

Also, while it seems simple but if a character is blind, can they still get opportunity attacks?

Finally, when an affliction occurs (poison, for example) when does the afflicted character roll its saving
throw and when does the poison actually do damage/take effect? Immediately, start of next turn, end
of next turn, etc...

Thanks everyone. :)

Ok, lots of questions. Let's go from top to bottom.

Stone Shape: By RAW you can surround an enemy with a stone wall, as per the spell ("You can form an existing piece of stone into any shape that suits your purpose"). “The floor” is an existent piece of stone and “A cage surrounding this orc” is a form that suits your purpose. The spell says that it doesn't allow a saving throw... so by RAW, if this tactic is used against you, you are screwed. I would allow a Reflex saving throw, though. I would rule that you can touch the opponent's square as part of casting the spell (otherwise, casting the spell will require two turns, so I'll say that touching the target is part of the "1 standard action" casting time). All this would provoke attacks of opportunity as usual.

Blinded: the SRD says this on the condition - "All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) against the blinded character." And then it says this on total concealment: "You can't execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies." so that's a no by RAW (I would play it like this, definitely).

As for the poisons questions, check this out: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/afflictions/poison

On the bottom of that page, there is a section called "How do Poisons Work?". The rules are bit all over the place, but that explanation/compilation is quite easy to understand.

Ramastar has the right of it on the blinded and poisons. Poisons are silly complicated, though, so don't feel bad if you still have questions.

As far as stone shape, I would generally not allow it to entrap people. It's a great spell for battlefield alteration and construction and breaking dungeon crawls and causing avalanches, but if it were intended to entrap people, it really needs a bunch of rules about how to handle that.

I'd assume, in-world, this is because it's a relatively slow and obvious process. If the target is aware and able to move, I'd let them pick which side they're on (like a successful save against a wall spell).

Cheers!
