All this latin nomenclature stuff is beyond my depth as a casually interested armchair paleontologist. Are you guys just google-quoting now, or do you actually have exposure to this stuff?
I know I have exposure to it. I'm a more-than-casually interested armchair paleontologist. And the Gregory Paul book was one of my favorites when I was younger, and I was disappointed to learn that all of the new names in it were pretty much just his idea.

Demiurge out.

Wow, those sound like some of the most lame and naughty word feats yet lol...then again, this is an environment book, so it's par for the course.

So far, the leviathan hunter and pirahna swarms are about the coolest things I've seen.

Different strokes for different folks. They sound more interesting to me than 99 percent of feats in any other WotC book, with the possible exception of a few of the feats in Complete Arcane.

I'm very curious about the ship combat rules. I ran a naval based campaign for a couple of years and the hardest thing was to try to do ship to ship combat. Not that ship on ship is all that hugely difficult, but, crew on crew was just a major pain. Not enough to break out mass combat rules but far too many to do individuals. I'm hoping for a D20 Modern treatment of ship combat or possibly including the idea of mobs from the DMG II. But, from the sounds of it, they went with the Heroes of Battle way. Which is it?

I'm curious about the "narrative shipboard combat system" too. (Hmm... for that matter, what's the rules on "mobs" in DMG II? I'd like my PCs to encounter some mobs...)

Oh, here's another question I have. Does it include plans for ancient-world oar-based ships, like Viking ships and Greek biremes/triremes? Or are all the ship plans based on late-European ships (galleons, etc.)?

(Of course, I'm definitely getting this book in any case, so I dunno why I'm asking... ;) )

Upon greater review, does the book have reasonable rules for underwater fighting?

It has essentially exactly the same rules for underwater fighting as the DMG. Except:

It has a brief sidebar with some minor changes, mainly a number of exceptions to the rule hampering bludgeoning attacks (for aquatic creatures' natural attacks).

It has some equipment designed to work better underwater.

That's about it.

Leaving aside the dinosaurs, what kind of rules for ship-to-ship combat does it have? What rules for ship use, ship sailing and ship sinking does it have?
