Stormwrack; is it necessary?

I'm about to start a sea-faring campaign, and all I really need are floor plans, speed, size, crew-size, etc. for ships. I can make up the rest of the rules. I can find some basic info on ships in the Arms and Equipment Guide. So... do I need Stormwrack?

need no; Helpful yes!

I am writing a seafaring campain also, and i have found stormwrack very useful, it has rules about Ship HP and how Spells affect Ships, it has sample Crew size and what class levels they should have for several differnt kinds of ships. Also some very cool magic Items for ships,

I also liked a few of the new races.... also some cool spells (like the new Mordenkainen Spell witch makes a Ship will full magical crew and extra Dimentional Cargo Holds)

The book is worlthless if you don't want to play a seafaring campaine but it is a very good book for those of us who are

Well, the Arms and Equipment Guide is slightly outdated and out of print. Stormwrack is needed, I think.

Also, it gives more options. For games that heavily rely on this sort of environment, variety is good.

Thanks...I've really got no interest in new races. I've got 4 "non-core" races offered for my campaign, so add those to the core races and I'm good. I've liked the prestige classes I've seen offered on the WotC site a lot, though. I own Arms and Equipment, so being out of print isn't an issue.

let me just say it is worth going to borders or Barns and nobel and taking a half hour and read threw it (mabye take notes) this is usual how i deside if i want to buy it... then i go to my FLGS and get 25% off

I used the "narrative" ship combat rules in a game recently and thought that it went really well - three pirate galleys against the PCs Caravel. It led, of course, to boarding actions and ended with the capture of one of the galleys and the large slave contingent on board.
