Straight Half-Orc Barbarian, or Multiclass?

So, I'm making a backup 6th level character for the banewarrens, because I'd like to have one ready if I die again. Here's the question... if I want to play a half-orc barbarian who uses a spiked chain, do I want to go with a Barbarian6 or put some levels of fighter in there? If I put levels of fighter in, do I make him Ftr1/Barb5, or Ftr3/Barb3, or something else altogether?

I'm sure these are somewhat simple questions, but I usually play anything but a fighter or barbarian. I want to try something different, though, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Any suggestions for feats? Oh, and if I multiclass, I get feats for the new class at when I take it, right? For example, if I made a Ftr1/Barb5, I'd get that extra feat that the fighter gets at first level, but not additional first level feats, right?

Thanks in advance!

There are a "gazzillion" possibilities, of course.....but in my experience (DMing good players), Ftr goes very well with Bbn.

Go: Bbn 1 => Ftr 1 to Ftr 4 => Bbn 2, then whatever PrC you have picked out.

....you do have a PrC picked out, right? Right?

And (IMO), the spiked chain isn't a barbarian weapon.. big club... big axe.... sure, big sword even, but the spiked chain seems a little high tech for a bunch of nomads.

Sure, pick it up later in life if you want... but me want BIG STICK!

I thought once you stop taking levels in barbarian you can't pick it back up again... am I wrong about that?

Oh, and prestige class.... I've never actually used one before. I could, I guess. But I wouldn't even know where to start.

I was never aware of that restriction, but I wouldn't be surprised if in some book somewhere it added that restriction. It is true that you can't advance as a Paladin once you stop taking levels in it, but not Barbarian.

You should tell us how you like to play that character, do you want to do much damage, go for trip or disarm, as many attacks as possible...just tell us and we will be helping you even better.

Monks and Paladins... through there are some PrCs that allow you to go back.

I would go Ftr2/Bbn2/Rog2. Then raise them all equally ;)

You'll miss your second attack for one level, but your hitpoints will be ok, you'll have rage and enough feats to learn one trick with the chain.
