The Soloist
Hero
Movie actors don't rehearse prior. They learn their lines the evening before the shoot and they do takes in situ, in the moment. The text can change the morning after (like Boromir at the Council of Elrond). Sean Bean had to read new text tapped to his knee. Sometimes, they don't even see each other because they have stand-ins to give the replies.I guess, but people working in theatrical productions can see when there's chemistry and charisma. They also often rehearse out of order and, for much of the time, without costuming, make-up or sets.
Maybe looking at all of this stuff through screens and watching for the technical aspects of it all during filming makes it harder to focus on the performances.
