Strongholds
This is a very interesting and different sort of product. It is a stronghold fully mapped out and described. The stronghold is three stories in size and each floor is mapped out, twice. There is a color version and a black and white version of each of the three mapped out floors. There is also a small two page pdf that gives a very brief overview of the stronghold.
The pdf gives a brief overview of the castle. There is no history or NPCs presented here. The castle is presented to be used anywhere and by anyone one. The places in the castle are described by name. For instance on the first floor there is a small church, a black smithy, stables, etc. The second floor is described a bit more but not a lot of detail. The product is designed to serve as the basic structure of a castle and allow a Dungeon Master to fill in the details. It actually does a nice job of setting the basic groundwork for that.
The maps are done in a jpeg format. Each one is about two megs or bigger in size. They all come in a zip file that is a bit over ten megs in size. I found that the maps could have used more detail. There seems to be a lot of empty, unused space in the castle’s first floor. The second and third floors are also have a bit of open space but what’s presented is the upper floors of the buildings on the first map. They maps are nice looking and can be printed out without much of a problem.
Overall, the product is okay. There is not a lot too it, but it is a nice map of a castle with a good starting point for a DM wanting to expand upon it.
