Struggling in the industry - one more try

All I can say is that, as a new publisher (of less than a year), reading threads like these is both eye-opening and sobering. I want to thank all of the veterans for their words of wisdom.

That, and holy cow on a pogo stick How To Be A PDF Publisher With A Poor Selling Product made me spray soda all over my monitor...and I wasn't even drinking any!

Howdy all,

We have been producing pdfs now since August of 2003 and I can tell you there is a huge learning curve. Our goals starting out included getting good art, putting out polished, well-edited product, and giving great customer service.
Our first release, which has done extremely well, was Last Rites of the Black Guard. At the time we thought we had done very well. Several industry folks gave us some great feedback (J.D. Wiker, Shane Hensley, Bruce Baugh, a few others). Man there were alot of things we needed to do better! We learned. Anyone who has seen Bloodlines, Innana's Kiss, or Greens Guide to Ghosts can tell you how much better our writing has become. We hired a professional editor and all our products go through about six separate edits, and the truth is, there are still mistakes. My best advice is do a word check for "will" and take everyone of em out!
I've seen some companies that are doing fairly well, that REALLY need some editing support, and I've seen some, as a customer, I'd never buy from based on poorly written press releases.

So basically I'm giving the same advice as everyone else. Write, edit, edit, edit, edit, and then edit some more.

Oh well, I'm rambling....

( and none of this went through edits, so forgive any mistakes.)
