stunned freedom of movement

Indeed. And more in game parallels, a rogue can sneak attack a paralyzed target, but not a stunned target. Discuss why *that* is.

IMO, probably because a stunned character maybe can move about it its own space, but because it cannot take actions cannot use an action to move out. Just a thought, afterall a stunned target stays standing.

Question: Why can't a Rogue sneak attack a stunned character? Stunned characters specifically lose all Dexterity bonus to AC, after all.

Or did you mean to ask why a Paralyzed character is subject to Coup de Gras, and a Stunned one isn't?

I'm still waiting, though, for ForeverSlayer to defend or explain the oft repeated claim that a stunned character can't take 5-foot steps.

It's true that they get no actions, but since the 5-foot step is specifically described as not taking an action, then there's nothing to stop them from making one.

And if our friend says, "He can't take a 5-foot step because he's stunned" again, I think I'll throw up.

I have already posted the official FAQ. The only problem here is you can't admit that you are wrong and move on. You are still trying to say that you are right when you are clearly wrong. I stunned character cannot move.

Agreed.

If you need to support this with "realism," think about this:

You are in an earthquake. You get conked on the head with a falling brick (not a direct hit). You are woozy and stumbling (stunned). You cannot get it together enough to run down a flight of stairs and hide in the subway (move action), but you could take a 5' step to avoid the wall falling behind you.

Sorry, just read the official FAQ. Applying real life isn't going to work in this situation.

The SRD calls a five foot step a "Miscellaneous Action." So it's not Full/Standard/Move, but it's still an action.

A miscellaneous action is not a game term like free action, it has no definition or meaning, and includes wide swathes of stuff that are of varying DEFINED action types as well as non-actions. 5 ft step is labeled as "no action" in that very same section and in the rules of the game article posted already.

Did you notice that the official FAQ said FoM wouldn't prevent Hold Person from working (i.e. Paralyzed ), but the description of FoM specifically says that it does?

In other words, the FAQ got this one wrong.

I notice that you seem to repost the links and materials others have provided, usually about 10 posts after they did. Are you slow, or do you just not bother to read the other posts?

Or, to put it even more simply, what part of "no action" don't you understand? As in, 5-foot step is labeled as "no action".
