That's him. And not just those two - they are only the ones that were 'dead' at the end of the novel, not popping back up a few chapters later.

Here's a D&D group of writers who didn't think we'd notice (not necessarily stupid, but blatantly obvious). See if you can guess them:

D&D designer sets up his world so that the druids keep demon gates closed (Shanarra rip-off).

If you're talking Eberron, the Silver Flame and the sacrifice of the couatls is what bound the demons. The druids keep the daelkyr and their abberation servants sealed up.

This author could not find a word describing a creature that lived in a symbiotic relationship with another creature. Now the word he created is used by everyone except this author, who found out that there already was a word for such a creature, and being an honest man he uses the proper word.

It's not Orson Scott Card, is it?

Needle in a haystack? It only took me a Google search and the terms "Isaac Asimov" and "symbiote" to find it.

But then again, the needle thing was meant to be clever, of course.

Anyway, I cheated, but: Hal Clement coined it in "Needle."

Course, it helps that I knew what the made-up word is.

Heh, 'Symbiote' is indeed the made up word. (And the one everybody knows.) The proper word is 'Symbionte', Hal Clement was rather embarassed by the fact that everyone embraced his 'new' word. (He himself started using the word symbionte once he found out that that was the proper term.)
