I recall seeing a lumberjack competition. These people could cut through 12" trees in a matter of 6 seconds. I think that they'd find a solid, thick english oak door to be childs play.
Also, I believe that it could be ruled that certain weapons could bypass hardness because they are well suited for the task. Using an ax to cut down a tree may have even been an example. Of course that's just a tree and not a solid, thick english oak door.
