Ah, its nice to see another Johnny Cash Fan.

A little bit of trivia. That song was actually written by Shel Silverstein.

in the last campaign there was:

Olive
Venus and
Xilo (petal in elvish...)

So those are kinda dumb. but not so dumb that it was irritating.

The DM called every NPC he hadn't already named Bob. that WAS kinda irritating.

The only name ive seen banned - we sometimes have some slightly whimsical names (Dred the Wizard anyone) - was when a player who was trying to figure out a name for a Vargr character. We were giving him some sh:eek: t and were suggesting that he be called Rex - he was about to go for it, when the GM banned it on the spot.

:D

an Ogre gunslinger known as Biggs (an NPC villain of my design)
a Gnomish Pirate Captain named Fonkin Hoddypinks (taken right from the section on no joke names in the HBG)

Durr the Hobgoblin, and Balsag the hunter (from the Sunless citadel)

My players, however, are a very mature bunch. :D

I just have to put this name up on the chopping block. One of my players who was kind of new to RPGS but not to fantasy named his dwarf: Buff McLargehuge. After he was reincarnated as an elf (not due to death, but a special polymorph effect), he renamed himself to Stick McThingay. The first I allowed, but the second was getting a little out of hand, so I made him keep his old name...

How did I do?

A thief named "Stealth".

To which upon hearing the first time the other players replied

" yyyrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm a bomber! gatta-gatta-gatta!" While making appropriate airplane motions with their arms!

Wish I'd been there...:p

Roll a D20, add a d8-2 (minimum 0), and you have a method for the silliest name I've ever come across: Szhogril the Hedgehog. This was my character for a friend's (humor based) campaign, and he was (entirely randomly determined, much like all but one letter of his first name) a 6'10" male blue hedgehog monk who happened to have a cloak of spider-climb (that he used to great effect). This campaign didn't make it past three settings.

After twenty years of gaming, I can't be bothered with names anymore.

Shubba the Goat Boy

Those are the better ones...

Ah yes, Shubba. That may qualify as the worst name in any of my campaigns. Although I have had a number of players who love the obscene names. I generally say no to these names in my current campaigns.
