Styptic most useless spell ever?

Another interesting 3.5 rumor is that spellcasters will be able to cast cantrips at will. But you can't have unlimited Cure Minor Wounds, so it will be replaced by Styptic.

Caliban will chime in with an "I know something you don't know" post about now :)

Do I have to change my name now? :D

I contacted the author to ask about Styptic and Delay Disease.

He told me that he hadn't seen the spells since he wrote them and that they are not what he wrote.

Styptic was originally called Styptic Pencil and was one of two spells. The first called Paper Cut was meant to be a sort of nearly uncurable, recurring "inflict minor wounds" and Styptic Pencil which cured that effect as well as curing all negative damage, ie -9 to 1 with styptic.

Delay Disease was called Sterilize and did other horrible things like render a human/humanoid permanently or temporarily infertile--so it was simultaneously a sort of clerical birth control and a really sick sort of low-level offensive curse, in addition to being a spell that would halt the progress of a disesase.

I will consult others to see if we can at least have Styptic changed in some way to make it more appealing.

And as a side note, we should not assume Styptic to be related to anything concerning R3E.

yet i find it hard to believe that in 3.5 they'll change the 'any cure spell heals bleeding damage'. i refuse to believe a cure serious wounds won't stop a minor bleeding wound.

I brought this up in the other thread on this spell, and pretty much got ignored, but I'll bring it up here too. In 3E cure spells stop dieing and stop the effects of wounding. It does not say anywhere, to the best of my searching ability, that cure spells stop all bleeding. The rules, as I read them, say that cure spells stop bleeding that could kill you (bleeding out when you reach negative HP or taking damage from a wounding item); but not minor bleeding.

It would appear that most folks assume that it stops all bleeding, and have house ruled it to do so. I guess that it makes for faster bookkeeping. I personally go by HP. If a cure spells heal you back up to full then minor bleeding is stopped too. If your still at half HP, your still bleeding... just not enough to affect HP.

Just my opinion...

well, i don't think people get complicated over things such as bleeding yet you don't suffer damage to HP...thats really all jsut flavour text

Exploding familiar was a great spell, especialy if you have a special familiar so you can do an extra point of damage with it. Personaly I always prefered transmute rock to stone though.
