Sublime Chord/Bard/Ranger

a 1ranger/9 bard gets inspire courage +2 and inspire greatness - I think thats the way you want to go. You will need the Open Minded Feat, at 9th level, for the fastest route to SubCord. If you can get a retroactive ruling on spending too few pts then you could also take Battle Caster (CArc) so you can cast in medium armour (like mithril full plate) CAdv has some nice spells, sonic weapon is terrific.
In the mean time-
you could also invest in some wands - Silence for shutting down casters, glitterdust for screwing with fighters, summon wands to trap detection and flanking, + buff and healing standbys. Good luck :)

Hey all!

Sorry, been on vacation ,so haven't been around the internet in a little bit. But i'm back now baby!

Alright, on to serious matters...so if i am reading this correctly, then it seems that I just have to stuff it and wait till my skill ranks are up to par :( Long time away...and i was wrong, i didn't put 6 skill points per level, i put 9. My error. So a few more bard levels to go but by that time (in a few levels) is it still worth it to take the sublime chord? I will already have level 4 (and 5 i think..but not sure) spells by that time, so does that mean that i use the sublime chords lvl 4-5 spells/day/known or do i combine it with the bards spells/day/known?

thanks again,

alex

As long as you have 9 levels of bard or less, you shouldn't worry because you only get 3rd level bard spells, anyway.

However, if you're a 10th-level bard and a 1st-level sublime chord, you get 4th-level spells as a bard (since you have a 20 Charisma) and 4th and 5th level spells as a sublime chord, but they are separate. You keep track of spell slots and spells known for each class separately, so you can't use your 4th-level bard spell slots to cast sublime chord spells, and you can't use your 4th-level (and higher) sublime chord spell slots to cast bard spells.

However, you do get to add your sublime chord level to your bard level to determine your caster level for bard and sublime chord spells.

As for whether it will still be worth it to take sublime chord levels, I would say yes :). Because of the sublime chord's skill rank requirements, you can't take your first sublime chord level before 11th character level anyway, and you immediately get 5th-level spells. You don't have the versatility of a wizard or the spell output of a sorcerer, but you're only two levels behind a single-class wizard and one level behind a single-class sorcerer in terms of the highest level spells you can cast. Given the lack of arcane spellcasting in your party, I think this will be a welcome addition.

By the way, as a Ranger/Bard...

What's your favored enemy? Human, I hope. Nothing like stacking Bardic Social-Fu with a +2 bonus to Bluff and Sense Motive.

A ranger gets a +2 bonus to all Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks against his favored enemy.

Bards do a lot of Bluffing and Sensing Motives of humans.

So, ranger/bards with a human favored enemy get some nice synergy. Every time you're trying to con your way past the guard? Get that +2 Favored Enemy bonus. :D
