Subtle Brilliance...

I'd like to convert 2e monsters to something useable in Grim Tales (once I get GT :p). Since I'm not allowed to search these forums, has anyone got tips or guidelines? I've done a few conversions to 3e (which is helped by that old conversion guide that came with Dragon a while back), but since GT is more akin to d20m (which I'm new to), I was wondering if there were any caveats I should look out for... unless it really is quite pluggable from a 3e conversion?

We have been having an interesting discusssion over at the Rat's Nest on incorporating variant rules from UA/GT into campaigns...

Yeah, well, I wouldn't know anything about that. I'm not allowed in there, remember?

By the way-- have you caught all the frequent references to Rat Bastardly GMing? Look in the Action Points section, Critical Hits/Fumbles, and the Horror section... Just to name a few...

If I understand your question correctly:

1) If you have 3.x monsters, you can use them in GT without modification.

For reference, with the exception of spellcasting classes (not to be confused with monsters with spell-like abilities, which will work just fine) you can port anything INTO Grim Tales that you want without modification.

You can't always port OUT of Grim Tales into other games. This is because there are feats and talents that are indigenous to Grim Tales that have no analog without reference to the GT rulebook. (A problem I am tackling in making sure that Slavelords of Cydonia is playable without the GT rulebook...)

2) If you want to convert monsters to 3.x, and more specifically to Grim Tales using Chapter 13, I will VERY SOON have a workable Excel spreadsheet that will walk you through the process. It's not ready for prime time but will be soon.

I could make a joke about Reigning Cats and Dogs, but I'll stop before I cross that line. :D

Nice review but, c'mon...5/5? Wulf's head will be getting too big to get through the doorway :p!

I plan to give him 2/5 for Heroes of High Favor: Halflings once I read it by way of balancing things out. ;)
