Suffocation, Thirst, and Hunger as disease tracks

Hmm... one thought: reduce the [R] to one round, and the DCs to attack: +1[R] and Endurance: I:10+1[R]/M:5+1[R]. This would make the effects stack slowly, but by the time the attack succeeds, chances are things will be pretty hairy. Perhaps also a line allowing DMs to abbreviate it to 10[R] snapshots in less intense situations, such as out of combat. Not sure how to divide and increse the states, though. Perhaps splitting it all into one effect per state?

Finally updated.

  • Suffocation's [R] is now once per round.
  • DMs may abbreviate suffocation in 10[R] snapshots (once per minute)
  • Increased number of states in suffocation so people die less quickly. Thoughts on current states? They seem a little dull to me.
  • Changed [R] language to be more understandable (hopefully).

Very nice!

However, I would strongly suggest using an adjusting DC based on level, using table Skill Check Difficuly Class in the DMG, page 61. There really isn't much of a reason that higher level characters can somehow "learn" to not suffer from hunger, thirst and suffocation. Otherwise, it pushes the boundries of believability (much akin to players metagaming the damage they can take by jumping off of a cliff at higher levels to pursue foes).

Good point. I'll add half-level to the DCs. I know this doesn't account for other means of boosting Endurance, and I'm fine with that. If someone boosts their Con and that makes them more durable, good for them. As for the +1 to all boosts, I can see adventurers becoming a little hardier over time.
