Summoned Creature Question

First Post
Hey all,

I'm playing a Summoner PC (Conjurer/Alienist) and was wondering this...

Do a summoned creatures attacks count as magical for the purpose of damage reductgion...AND...if one took the 'beckon the frozen feat' would that damage count as magic? Or is it all just natural attacks?

Thanks

Actually, according the Monster Manual pg. 31, if the summoned Celestial creature has damage reduction (from having 4 or more HD), then their attacks are treated as magical for the purpose of damage reduction. The same works for Fiendish. Now, I'm not sure about the Pseudonatural template that is added by the Alienist prestige class.

Edit - Ok, after looking at the Pseudonatural template it appears they left that information off  So, strictly by the book, then a pseudonatural summoned creature would not be able to bypass DR. Personally, I think this was probably an error and should have included the stipulation that if they have DR, then they can bypass DR just like Celestial and Fiendish creatures.

As for Becken the Frozen, the damage is added to the creature's attacks, so if they can already bypass DR then it would also bypass DR. If the summoned creature has less than 4 HD, by my reading of the feat DR would apply to this damage also.

Good point. If the summoned creature can normally bypass DR/Magic, then it does in fact bypass DR/Magic. My answer of "no" was with respect to the implicit question of does the fact that the monster was summoned and is actually an effect allow it to bypass DR. It doesn't. Clear as mud, now? :)

Aha, that makes sense... And now that I know where tolook, I checked out celestial, fiendish, anarchic, and greenbound. They all have that same DR decriptor, but Psuedonatural doesn't, I would agree that it was probably left out. But convincing the GM... but considering how broken greenbound summoning and that template gets it... I would think that psuedonatural does too, if not Alienist was a BIG mistake.

c'est la vie

Thanks

If the creature gets DR X/Magic, it doesn't matter if the line is there or not. It's in the description of DR.

"Some monsters are vulnerable to magic weapons. Any weapon with at least a +1 magical enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls overcomes the damage reduction of these monsters. Such creatures’ natural weapons (but not their attacks with weapons) are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction."

Where can I find that for 'quoting'?

Thanks.
