Summoning spell range

Just a quick question here. If I'm a first level Wizard and cast Summon Monster I, is the summoned creature limited by the range listed in the spell (i.e. it could never move more than 25 feet from me)?

The creature must appear within the spell's range, but it does not have to remain within the range.

Player's Handbook, page 157, under Conjuration, end of second paragraph.

No. It may be summoned 25' away then move freely.
