Trailer Superman Full Trailer

I like how they did it in the Incredible Hulk: a montage during the title sequence providing some background info, but not spending a whole act or two of the actual movie on it.
It establishes that there was an experiment that turned Bruce into the Hulk, Betsy got seriously hurt, Thunderbolt got hurt as well believing he was defending her, Bruce has been on the run, and he's trying to control the Hulk via meditation. That's pretty much all you need before going into the movie itself. You could easily do similar montages for Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman, since their backgrounds are pretty much common knowledge. You probably could not have gotten away with doing the same for Iron Man back in 2008.
I liked that intro for giving a direct nod to the intro to Bill Bixbys Incredible Hulk

but yeah Ironman was not on the same level as Bats, Supes, Spidey or Hulk for public familiarity.

If you’re a 10 year old and there hasn’t been a Superman movie in 10 years then you probably haven’t seen his origin a dozen times. Or at all. These things are for kids after all.

Im totally down not needing the spider bite, the pearls, the baby rocket too. However, I do find it a bit jarring sometimes when a secondary ensemble just shows up with no explanation of who or what they are. Like in Black Adam. That was a really crowded movie.

Check Creature Commandos as that was the first animated show under him.

Creature Commandos and what Ive heard abour Mr Terrific being a bit unstable is what has me concerned about where Gunn is taking his DCU.

Superman as the big Boy Scout in modern polarised society is a challenging story to tell in 2 hours, especially when the Justice Gang is taking up runtime

There was a fairly recent TV show though, and Superman has high enough profile that he's part of the overall cultural osmosis. At least enough that you could get away with a montage: Jor-El putting little Kal in a rocket and sending him off as Krypton explodes, rocket landing in corn field, found by the Kents, some shots of Clark growing up and developing powers, moving to Metropolis and getting a job at the Daily Planet and meeting Lois, and some glamor shots of him rescuing a plane or fighting a giant space monster or something. Done.

I just checked with my youngest, who's only a touch older, and has never seen a Superman movie, TV show or comic book.

"Uh, his planet was going to explode, so his parents sent him to Earth as a baby. He was raised by ... broke people? No, farmers."

Even if the movie doesn't say anything about his origin, I bet most of the audience will be OK.

We know from the trailer that he goes back and visits Pa Kent in Kansas, so I suspect there will be enough in there for people to get the highlights.

Anecdotes and all that. I asked my PT, who is 24, and she didn't have a clue.
