I liked that intro for giving a direct nod to the intro to Bill Bixbys Incredible HulkI like how they did it in the Incredible Hulk: a montage during the title sequence providing some background info, but not spending a whole act or two of the actual movie on it.
It establishes that there was an experiment that turned Bruce into the Hulk, Betsy got seriously hurt, Thunderbolt got hurt as well believing he was defending her, Bruce has been on the run, and he's trying to control the Hulk via meditation. That's pretty much all you need before going into the movie itself. You could easily do similar montages for Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman, since their backgrounds are pretty much common knowledge. You probably could not have gotten away with doing the same for Iron Man back in 2008.
but yeah Ironman was not on the same level as Bats, Supes, Spidey or Hulk for public familiarity.
